It is not what happens to us that
maps out our life. It’s not the cards we’re dealt. Instead, it’s what we do
with that that creates our life. It’s how we choose to play those cards that
matters most. What happens to us, happens to us. What we choose to do with
that, makes us who we are. It is what we choose to do with that that makes us
survivors. It’s what we choose to do with that that recreates a sense of
wholeness. It’s what we choose to do with that, that makes the flower once
stepped on and crushed begin to straighten out its stem and grow again.
The flower that is my life is still
damaged, but it is pulling itself up, reaching for the sun, and beginning to
grow tall and strong. At some point, the bud will shine and the petals unfold.
Then we will begin to bloom petal by petal…part by part. In the end the flower
will stand tall and beautiful and never let another crush her again.
When I moved several states away, a
co-worker told me, “Bloom where you’re planted.” She meant that wherever you
are, make the best of it. Whatever you do, do it with all your heart. Now I am
finding myself recalling that statement and thinking of it somewhat
differently. I was planted in a family and life of weeds and barren soil.
“Bloom where you’re planted………..”
